Full Society is proud to report that this year was our first time participating in the 2nd Annual Baltimore Cocktail Week! Everything from the launch event, to the closing brunch, was a wonderful success. For those of you who may not know, Baltimore Cocktail Week (BCW) was founded by Ginny Lawhorn as an effort to bring the Baltimore Hospitality Industry together to help cultivate and promote, “the enhancement of the hospitality industry in Baltimore City and surrounding areas through innovative cocktail programs, comprehensive educational forums and consumer enrichment events.” BCW also works closely with Non-Profits in the Baltimore area, ensuring that their events equally promote sustainability for our city. Full Society is very proud to announce their success and our involvement!
The week was kicked off with “Baltimore’s Lovely Ladies Bartender Competition,” which was presented by Tullamore DEW Irish Whiskey at Pen & Quill restaurant near Penn Station. Guests were able to sample some of the best crafted cocktails by a dozen of the leading female bartenders from the Baltimore area, vote for their favorite, enjoy great food, and best of all, generate massive support for the Moveable Feast’s Ride for the Feast! This year’s winner was a difficult one to decide. Each bartender’s drink was fresh, exciting, and delicious, but at the end of the night there had to be a winner. Ariel from Verde took home this year’s title with her incredibly creative cocktail with smoked Bourbon, and an exciting flashy show of charred garnishes that gave her cocktail a beautifully smoky scent, and smooth taste. Congratulations Ariel and thank you for such a delicious drink!
Following the bartender competition, we had the privilege of being a part of the screening of the SXSW award winning documentary, “Hey Bartender” at the Landmark Theatre in Harboreast. The event was sponsored by Sticky Rice, who supplied everyone with delicious vegan friendly snacks, and Sailor Jerry’s Rum, who provided creatively concocted cocktails, all featuring Sailor Jerry’s Rum. However, that's not all! Along with drinks, food, and entertainment, “Hey Bartender” was followed by an awesome discussion led by Sailor Jerry brand ambassador, Daniel “Gravy” Thomas. The 2013 documentary featured the rebirth of the bartender and the comeback of the cocktail. As members of this industry in multiple facets, the Full Society team was truly moved and gained a new appreciation for what bartenders and service industry folks do. Those of us who have been bartenders and still are find a sense of pride in the craft. If you haven’t seen it, see it!
We rounded out the week with an amazing brunch at Sticky Rice with more insight about rum and cocktails from Daniel “Gravy” Thomas. We truly enjoyed being a part of the 2nd Annual Baltimore Cocktail Week and want to send out a huge thank you and round of applause to Ginny Lawhorn who orchestrated this whole thing! We can’t wait for next year!
